Cataract Awareness Month

Cataracts, a clouding of the normally clear lens of the eye, is the most common cause of blindness in the world, and in the United States, a huge percentage of our population ages 40 and older is affected by this deterioration of the eye.

This condition has no exact cause, but it is often a part of the aging process. The cloudy lens prevents the eye from properly focusing light and makes vision blurry or hazy. While age does play a role, other risk factors for cataracts include eye inflammation, genetics, other eye injuries or diseases, and smoking.

Fortunately, cataract treatment is not complicated. There are many techniques that are “same day” procedures which provide significant vision improvement nearly immediately after surgery.
